The house had this lovely big bare living room with a fireplace and chimney breast in the middle, and were questioning what kind of alcove shelving we should put into them. We looked at a few bookcases and big standalone units in furniture shops but they all covered up the great colour on the walls – Farrow & Ball’s Inchyra Blue – so we decided to go the custom route.

We had already planned to get a carpenter to put shelves and a desk into the study so within the same piece of work we commissioned Alper from WoodMode.ie to build us some base units and floating shelves. They are made out of ash with LED lighting for both sides of the chimney breast. They are fitted straight into the side of the walls which leaves the paint exposed – we think it’s a great look.

I also now have somewhere to put the blog award we won back in October!

Hope you like the before and after pictures.
